From Kirra Lookout all the way to Greenmount Hill, this painting is my love letter to the little pocket of coastline that shaped me. The beach, the streetscape, the old shops and landmarks that have been there forever, it's all here, packed into every corner of the canvas.
I grew up weaving in and out of these streets, and I have a sweet memory from just about every one of them. So, when it came time to paint Coolangatta, I couldn't help myself, I snuck in a few personal favourites. The shop where my mum got her first job. My childhood preschool. The hall where I had dance classes as a little kid. These places might look like background detail, but to me they're everything.
And then there are the icons everyone knows and loves, Rusty the eagle keeping watch from Kirra Lookout, the Pink Hotel, the Cooly Pie Shop, Earth N Sea, Big Trev's Watersports. So many good things packed into this tiny little pocket of the coast.
The joy and love I have for this place is woven into every little detail, I hope you feel it when you look at it.
Oh, and it's a find-the-things, and this one is the most detailed I've ever painted. There is a lot to find!
