Byron was always going to be a big one. It's such a special place to so many people, I knew I couldn't paint it without honouring as many local loves as I could squeeze in.
So they're all here. The Pass, The Beachy, The Balcony, The Solar train, Railway Park, The Wreck, Santos, Bay Grocer, Byron Gems, the school, The Cabbin, the Top Shop, the Welcome sign, and so many more... and of course, the lighthouse keeping watch over it all.
A collector recently told me these paintings feel like those little town floor mats you'd drive your matchbox cars around as a kid, how you get lost in the streets and the details. I absolutely love that, and this piece is exactly that feeling. It's a find-the-things and the longer you look, the more you find.
And keep an eye out for the locals - a couple of dolphins playing in the waves, whales cruising out the back, and a beautiful wedge-tailed eagle soaring over the headland.
This one was a true labour of love. I hope it carries all that energy and joy into its new home.
